In order to stay innovative and embrace the ever-changing technology available to us, Parallel Design Group has been putting much of our energy and focus into Revit; a powerful collaboration tool by Autodesk, Inc. that uses the Building Information Modeling (BIM) system to create digital illustrations of the functionalities of structures and buildings. In fact, we have a full-time Engineer (Mike) dedicated to developing our Revit template and integrating new technology plug-ins within the program.
Coming from years spent in AutoCAD for Architecture, which we still use as needed, Revit is where our industry is moving and where our design team hangs out frequently. Revit is evolving consistently and there is always something new to learn, creating endless opportunities for growth. Autodesk continues to work on new features that help our clients with visualization and minimize errors due to the “smart features.” Thus, beginning in 2018, PDG has proactively and fully transitioned our daily work to Revit.
See below for a few reasons why our team loves Revit.
1. REVIT BETTER SERVES OUR CLIENTS
We can all agree that when helping our clients to visualize their new space, 3D is where it’s at! AutoCAD, a 2D platform can certainly provide detailed 2D drawings and even basic 3D models, but Revit builds in 3D out of the box so the time to create models is minimized. In addition to assistance with a greater sense of visualization for their newly designed space, Revit can also assist to provide realistic renderings to clients, as shown below in examples from Engel + Volkers, a luxury real estate company in Fishers and a tenant mock-up space in Indianapolis.
2. REVIT CREATES AUTOMATION AND SYNERGIES IN OUR WORK FLOW
Designers are collaborating on projects together and able to work in the same file simultaneously. Revit allows automation and artificial intelligence within the program, which saves time – and is more efficient and intuitive. And we are all about that!
3. INCREASED DRAWING ACCURACY
Due to the automation of the program and the efforts in developing our company specific template, there is a minimization of errors and omissions. Our VP of Technology Mike works tirelessly with our team to build standards into our template, which has paid off immensely in the process of transitioning some of our work to Revit.
4. COLLABORATION WITH VARIOUS DISCIPLINES
Last, but certainly not least – we love the fact that this program not only supports Interior Designers specifically, but can collaborate amongst various disciplines. Designers can work with engineers and architects seamlessly, again – underlining the efficient nature of the program and minimizing the potential change orders for our clients.
